New rugby pitches
Two pitches were constructed – the first on the existing pitch at the Hardy Roberts site known to be very wet and the second on virgin grassland.
The trial holes revealed a clay loam topsoil over a significant layer of solid clay.
Levelling involved cut to fill and protective swales were installed to prevent any surface water from higher ground entering the pitch. An attenuation pond was installed to control water run-off to the adjacent lower lying property.
The design incorporated an intensive lateral and slit drain drainage system and with a 1:50 cross fall on the pitch it has proved to be one of the most firmest and reliable pitches in the county.
