Sports Pitch Design and Project Management

Design and project management

Managing the work flow

Sound construction of a sports pitch can only follow good and adequate sports pitch design.  After many years in the contracting industry I learnt – often from mistakes people made – the essential requirements in implementing a construction project incorporating turfgrass establishment. In short, construction of a sports pitch without expert design and project management leads to problems that become vastly more expensive and inconvenient than if expertise had been originally sought.  It is vitally important there in-depth preparation, detailed accurate design, well managed construction and essential establishment procedures. Preparing detailed working drawings and comprehensive specifications are of little value if the project is not properly overseen.  Confining the final end price to the established budget hangs on rigid adherence to the agreed contract but more importantly to diligent research, completeness of the specifications and the immediate attention to unforeseen circumstances that are sure to arise.

Sports Pitch Design & Project Management Case studies

“We have worked with Gordon on a number of projects including the £32 million Gateway Acadamy Thurrock and the £28 million St Mary’s CE School, Cheshunt.”

“These projects involved significant sports pitch formation and modelling together with associated land drainage. Gordon is expert in his knowledge and understanding of sports pitch construction and we would not hesitate in recommending his specialist services.”

“Gordon Jaaback was commissioned by the Heathfield and Waldron Rugby Football Club and the Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council to carry out the design and project management of the Clubs new rugby pitch at Heathfield. Despite considerable drainage problems, working with Wealden clay and a very tight budget Mr Jaaback turned one of the worst pitches in Sussex into arguably the best and on which, County matches can now be played. The pitch is simply magnificent and has been instrumental in promoting the club at all levels. The pitch was delivered on time and to budget.”

“Hertfordshire County Council has been advised by Gordon Jaaback as a consultant in the development of sports pitches since October 2002.  He has undertaken feasibility studies, prepared contract documents, organised tender processes and managed the implementation of contracts to satisfactory completion within budget, on time and to the required quality.”
