Irrigation
The planning and monitoring of irrigation programmes is an essential part of turfgrass management. Drainage during the wet winter months determines whether safe play can continue without undue damage to the playing surface.
The application of water is probably the most mis-managed undertaking in the management of turfgrass areas. These areas are either over watered of suffer from the lack of water. With today's knowledge of evapotranspiration losses, the measurement of rainfall and soil water-holding capacities, sound irrigation scheduling can be easily achieved. However, all depends on the performance of the irrigation system - especially the evenness of water distribution.
