The drought in the south east continues

The suffering of winter sports pitches

With minimal rain since completing spring renovation, winter sports pitches will no doubt be suffering and struggling to maintain growth without irrigation.  Nothing can be done – increasing aeration will contribute to further water loss.

If renovation was done properly and in good time, new ryegrass seedlings will hold on.  However, once significant rain falls it would be worth topping up the nitrogen levels to rejuvenate growth – and only when good moisture levels are imminent should deep aeration using the earthquake and vertidrain re-commence.
